Rory used to avoid my sister at all costs. She's watching him while I'm in Atlanta. Today she sent me a photo of herself with the cat on her lap, watching television. He looked so happy. He never sits on my lap! I'm jealous. :p

Meanwhile, the trip has been a bit disappointing. My jaw started acting up, and I was in so much pain that I had to go to Urgent Care. The doctor prescribed a low dose of Valium to relax my jaw enough to sleep, and told me to take extra ibuprofen and alternate hot and cold packs. I felt well enough to do some stuff today.

Rory has finally warmed up to Katie. Usually he hides if he even knows she's coming over. Tonight she came over to watch a Broadway live stream of She Loves Me. She was here for almost three hours, and Rory slowly came out. First he stared at her, then crept closer and closer, and finally let her scratch his head! He hasn't let her go near him since he was a kitten. Progress!

She Loves Me was awesome. I wish we could have gone to New York to see it in person, but it closes next week.

Oh my God, the choir loft was so unbearably hot. If the windows hadn't been open, and one singer hadn't brought in a couple of fans, we all would have passed out! The congregation was overheated, too.

The weather has been ridiculous this Christmas! It was very warm and rainy Christmas Day, too.

The Christmas Eve service went pretty well, though someone forgot to give the choir candles. When it came time for the Candlelighting and Silent Night, the choir was left in the dark. It was terrible. We couldn't see our music, and the choir loft lights were never turned back on- so we couldn't see our music for Joy to the World, either! Argh. The Candlelighting is my favorite part of the service, and we missed it. :( Otherwise, it was a lovely evening.

This has been on display in the welcome center all throught the season:

Katie took this photo after church last night- a halo around a full moon! Despite the clouds, we got a good view.

Sam brought his cat, Truman, with him because he's staying with his mom and dad while he has time off. Truman is a great cat. Big, soft, and sweet. Rory did not like him, and hid. Truman stayed in his carrier most of the night. A very well behaved boy!

He loves his "dad", Sam!

He's not sure about his "grandma", Katie!

I made two special treats for the Christmas Eve dinner- mushrooms in puff pastry and a chocolate/marzipan truffle cake. The cake broke into three pieces, but I repaired it with extra ganache!

As usual, dinner involved lobsters and shrimp. Yum.

I'll post Christmas photos tomorrow. I'm still exhausted from last night!

Rory does his annual "let's hide under Mommy's tree" pose.

And then has a nap with his grandma.

Here are (left to right) Celeste, Esme, Irma/Mindee, Phoebe, and Sophie! They're ready to cause all kinds of mischief around all the other dolls.

Meanwhile, Rory was very interested in the little treat bags from Halloween.

The mini version of Maryellen is in my hands. She's so cute.

Rory cat still hasn't forgiven me for taking him to the vet last week. But he's been cute, anyway:

Finally, the last batch of putz houses for the church bazzar. I'm going to make more for the family!

Here they come...

Also, Rory is a silly cat. That's my dinner, not yours!

He even has an old pickup truck. It's actually a birdfeeder, but I'm using it as a prop first.

I had to house-sit for Katie this weekend. Giada was a very good dog as usual. Didn't have a good Memorial Day, though. I was helping Mom with the garden, and got so overheated that it killed my appetite. We had a great cookout and I just couldn't eat a thing. I felt better after drinking a lot of water and taking a nap, but still didn't want to eat. Oh, well.

The American Girl rumors were right- the next historical doll is Maryellen, a girl from 1950s Florida. Here is her mini doll:

She'll be available in August. After my I'll have to wait until Christmas to get her. The doll after her will be a black girl from 1960s Detroit. No name or prototypes leaked yet, but she is coming. Caroline (1812) is being retired.

Rory after a rainy day...he likes my Marvel umbrella.

Finally, Captain America wants to remind us all what Memorial Day is really about:

A friend from another Rotary club "flocked" her:

She had to pay that club a fee to get them off the lawn. They're gone already. But it was hilarious! And the funniest thing...THEY WERE PUT ON THE WRONG LAWN. The next door neighbor was very amused. It was just on the edge of their property, so I guess the mistake was understandable. LOL.

More tulips!

And the latest Rory photo:

Rory napping. Dad took this photo on his phone. D'awwwwwwwwwwwww.

My Star Trek/Doctor Who tree is up!

I went for a walk in downtown Fredericksburg to see the store windows today. There were some really nice ones...

But the best, of course, was at Whittingham's- this year, it's a Mother Goose theme.

They look better at night, so I'll go back and take night shots.

100 years.

This is what my sister posted on Facebook today:

On this day, 100 years ago, my Granddaddy, Rev. Rual T. Perkins was born. It's hard to believe he's been gone 9 years now. This also happens to be the 100th anniversary of the day England declared war on Germany. That must have been strange, sharing a bday with such a terrible event. As you can see from the photo, he served in WWII (chaplain).

Kind of like being born the day Kennedy was assassinated, or the 9/11 attacks. I'd hate to have that kind of day.

I still miss my granddaddy and Great-Aunt Audrey, who died the same month he did. :(

Rory had to go to the vet today, and he was not happy. He didn't just cry on the way- he YOWLED. It was heartbreaking! But he was good once we got there:

Rory hid all day under my bed. I managed to grab him and throw him out of my room, but not before he clawed the hell out of me. And now he's back under the bed.

Something is really bothering him. He doesn't usually hide like this. He's curled up under the bed and his eyes are huge. I don't know what's wrong, and of course he can't tell me. :(

Behind a cut because it's image heavy. Plus there are cat pictures, too! Rory was cute today.

Rory actually turns pages on me while I'm reading. That's the downside to a Kindle.

It's really funny to me because as far as I know, the only Jewish superhero is Thing from the Fantastic Four!

Even my Halloween socks! Argh.

Going to a Halloween potluck dinner tomorrow. It's a costume party, but I didn't have time to do anything fancy. Mom and I just bought awesome witches' hats at Michaels, so we're going to be Mother/Daughter witches!

Cough came back, went back to the doctor. She gave me more meds plus an order for X-rays and a pulmonary function test. At least she's thorough. Meds are already working on the cough, but I am tired beyond belief. I was supposed to ring with the bell choir today, but couldn't get out of bed. Fortunately, the director had a sub for me. Regular choir needed me, though. I couldn't have sung anyway. We were down two sopranos, me and Alison (not my cousin Alison!). Her excuse is better than mine- she had a baby girl this weekend. :)

Not going to Louisville. Too sick, plus I can't board Rory. What a pest.
