An attack in London last night. Van plowed into crowds on London Bridge, seven killed, and the three terrorists were shot dead by police. This the way it's going to be, smaller random attacks.

I'm appalled by Trump's response to the attack. Instead of offering condolences to the people, he immediately insulted London's mayor  (who happens to be Muslim) and continuing to call for his Muslim travel ban. It's interesting that Britain is responding to the attack with relative calm and grace. No mass panic or screams for all Muslims to be thrown out of the country  (except for a few nutjobs). Just going about their business, drinking their tea, and telling the terrorists to sod off. Do not mistake their grief and calm demeanor for a lack of resolve. Their police are doing their jobs and the public is being vigilant. Keep Calm and Carry On, and STOP KILLING PEOPLE YOU FUCKING TWATS.

London Bridge is NOT falling down.

Explosions at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England. At least 19 dead, 50 injured. God.

So, it looks like British media is about to activate RATS- radio alert transmission system, or as it’s jokingly known, Royal about to snuff it. All Royal staff called to Buckingham Palace at 3 a.m., not usually good news. Rumors are flying that Prince Phillip is either dead or dying. He made an appearance today, but when you’re 95 and have had recent health problems, things can change in literally a heartbeat. So I won’t be surprised if my friends across the pond wake up to the “This is BBC News from London” special program (sorry, PROGRAMME, :p) interruption. The Palace doesn't release that kind of info until eight in the morning, so it will be the middle of the night for news here.

2017, please don’t take the Queen yet. I don’t think they’re ready!

Boy, am I having flashbacks to the death of Princess Diana. My uncle Chuck had died the day before, and my parents had driven out to Ohio for the funeral. They called to check in just as the news was breaking about Diana on MSNBC. I still don't remember why I was up so late that night, but I was glued to the screen.

ETA: Prince Phillip is NOT dead, he's just officially retiring from public life.

Today has not been a good day. Terrible storms in my area. I've been feeling like complete crap for two days. Can't tell if it's the weather, a depressive episode, some kind of illness, or all of the above. I wanted to stay in bed most of the day. And now I have a migraine.

And oh yeah, we're going to war. Trump has started bombing Syria, and the only thing that is going to accomplish is pissing off Putin and Russia.

And Don Rickles died. Yeah, he was ninety, but it's still sad. RIP, you hockey puck!

Had a very successful shopping trip this week, though. Three new dresses, a new purse, a top, and a pair of leggings. Katie took me to her crack dealer- AKA a LuLaRoe party/open house. She bought me a dress as payment for watching Giada last weekend!

Every day now, ever since the election, the first time I see the news of the morning. (again, this is from Swear Trek, God bless them!)

Shooting at the airport in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. "Multiple" deaths and injuries according to MSNBC.

ETA: Five dead, eight wounded, shooter in custody. He's an American who served in the military...and had his gun in his checked bag. Once he got it from baggage claim, he loaded the gun and just started shooting.

Godspeed, John Glenn. The first American to orbit the Earth and former Senator was 95.

Finally got to see Doctor Strange. It was excellent. Also went to see A Christmas Story: The Musical last week. Absolutely wonderful.

I helped my dad host his pre-Rotary party last week. I forgot that he had a sort-of celebrity in his club- Clint Van Zant, that guy you see on MSNBC whenever there's a mass shooting or other big crime. He was at the party. So that was interesting!

Cookies are almost all baked. The choir carol service is on Sunday. Christmas is almost here. The season is just moving fast!

In Nice, this time, on Bastille Day, no less. Van plowed into a crowd, dozens dead. UGH. :(

ETA: At least 70 dead. God.

Mom and I were worried that Cecile and her boys were there, because we know they've been in South France this week. Cecile sent a message that she's fine, they aren't in Nice. But they were fairly close, on the coast.

Abosolutely sick about what's happening in Dallas tonight. After a peaceful protest, snipers started shooting at the cops who were assisting the protesters. Eleven injured, four, possibly five dead. This isn't helping anything.

The protest was over and people were leaving. Now they're stuck downtown because the snipers haven't been caught.

I can’t believe Anton Yelchin is dead. 27 years old. Jesus fucking Christ. When I saw it trending on Facebook, I was sure it was a hoax.

I won’t be able to watch Star Trek: Beyond without crying any time Chekov is on screen.

2016, please fuck off and die. PLEASE.

He was an adorable human being as well as a talented actor.

This has been a particularily bad week.

Jo Cox, a Labour MP, was assassinated today. Her attacker apparently yelled "Britain First!". These "Brexit" (UK out of Eurpoean Union) idiots are going to destroy Great Britain.

I wish there was some coverage on U.S. news. This is pretty important. Yes, we're still grieving about Orlando and it warrents coverage, but a politcian in Great Britain was assassinated at a time of turmoil in British politics.

This was written for the Columbine High School shooting victims. Our bell choir is doing this next week. It was already on the schedule, but I think it's one we would have just pulled out to do because of the tragedy in Orlando yesterday.

When our choir played at a bell festival in 2007, it was just days after the Virginia Tech shooting. All the choirs were given copies at the last minute to play it in our concert in memory of the victims, and we all did it perfectly. It still gives me chills to think about it.

Sam was the only producer/newswriter at his station last night, and had to scramble to re-write for the newscasters. I don't envy the jobs of those working in the news, especially television. He had to be on top of the news "wires" and be ready for NBC to break in with special reports, etc. It's going to be like this for him for a long time.

This has been a draining day. Waking up to the horrible news of the shooting, and having to say goodbye to both our senior and associate pastors at church today. I'm really going to miss them. I really had a hard time keeping it together today. I had to turn off the television and all social media for a while because I just didn't want to deal with humans today.

Can 2016 just be over already? I'm so afraid that Trump is going to win the election, because you just know he's going to use the fact that the shooter was a Muslim as fuel for his anti Muslim, anti immigrant (never mind the shooter was an American born citizen) campaign.

A mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando. No fatalities as of yet, but it looks like it won't end well. God dammit. :(

I woke up ten minutes ago with a sick feeling that something was I turned on MSNBC. And there it was...this is one time I really wish it was their usual weekend marathon of Locked Up.

Update: 50 dead, 53 injured. One gunman, shot dead by police. Worst mass shooting by a single gunman in U.S. history. President Obama called it both a terrorist attack and a hate crime. Shooter was an American (born and raised) who happened to be Muslim. Of course ISIL is claiming responsibility though there's no evidence he was working for them, other than his own rants.

Worst mass murder of gays in the U.S., topping the 1973 arson at the Up Stairs Lounge in New Orleans which killed 33. That was never actually solved, the suspect was a hustler who was thrown out of the bar, and vowed revenge. He killed himself before he could be charged.

This guy was on an FBI watch list. How in the hell did he get such easy access to guns? And I don't want to hear the "if only someone else had a gun" argument, either. There were armed security guards at the club.

Boxing great Muhammad Ali has died at 74. I figured he wasn't going to last much longer because he's looked so frail recently. Parkinson's Disease is a bitch.

Can 2016 be done yet? :(

An EgyptAir A320 is missing in the Mediterranean Sea, just ten miles from Egyptian airspace. No distress call, no word in three hours. Does not look good for the 66 passengers and crew. :( I hope they find something soon.

ETA (many hours later): Wreckage found, U.S. Intelligence says strong evidence of explosion. So likely terrorism, unless it's some freak accident like TWA 800. Meanwhile Donald Trump is screaming on Twitter about TEH MUSLIMS DID IT. Jesus fucking Christ, let the investigators do their jobs.
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
There was another fucking terrorist attack yesterday, this time in Brussels. At least 31 dead and 200+ injured. This is never going to end.

And of course, asshole candidates Ted Cruz and Donald Trump want to use the tragedy to promote their hatred of Muslims. Fortunately, they're being called out on it, by other Republicans, no less.

Yet another mass shooting, this time in San Bernardino, CA. At least 20 shot, fatalities reported but the number is yet unknown. Still an active situation as of 3:45 EST. Dammit.

Update as of 11:00 p.m.- 14 dead, 17 injured, 10 of those are critical. Two suspects dead after a police chase and shootout.

This happened less than a week after the fatal shootings at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood facility. Three dead there and several others injured.

Multiple terrorist attacks in Paris tonight, many dead and injured, hostages taken (that part is over, at least), the borders of France closed. Will it ever end?

Just breaking- there may be 100+ dead in a theater where there were hostages. I guess the police stormed the theater too late. :(
