Got this cutie from Build-A-Bear Workshop:

And this t-shirt from Funko:

I also have Captain America nail polish and decals coming. Team Cap all the way!

The movie opens in less than two weeks. The early word is that it's the best Marvel film to date. I can't wait! I missed out on Deadpool.
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
I read Black Knight #5 today and was very sad when it was over. It ended the way I figured it would, with Steve Rogers being taken over by the Ebony Blade, and having to fight Dane for it.

We got about six inches yesterday. But the good news is, it almost all melted by this afternoon!

Got some nice photos, though. I put the gingerbread house from Christmas out for the birds, and it got covered with snow.

And I took Emma Louise out in her cute coat.

It was pretty out there.

Mom and I went to see Buddy- the Buddy Holly Story at the Riverside Theater. It was a fun show. We both really enjoyed it.

Got some cute stuff for Valentine's Day. Katie got me these cute Star Wars plushies:

And Mom and Dad gave me this set for my doll collection:

The cake stand is too cute! I can't wait to do a spring display for the dolls.

I've ordered a beautiful pink 50's style lace dress for Maryellen, which Emma Louise will borrow for Easter. :p

Comics talk- the solicitations for May from Marvel are out, and Hawkeye was missing. Black Knight is gone, must they take Hawkeye, too? I hope it's just a break. Meanwhile, the title of Black Knight's trade paperback is "The Fall of Dane Whitman". I hope that's not a hint about his fate. Of course, it's already been hinted that he'll be around.
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
Black Knight #4 picks up where #3 left off- Dane is locked up and Steve Rogers has the Ebony Blade. But Dane's people aren't going to let that go quietly- they find the previous king's secret portal where they get tons of Earth guns. Fortunately, a compromise is worked out before it gets bloody. The Uncanny Avengers take the Blade, but Dane gets to stay with his kingdom, because as the historian, Rebecca, points out, the Blade is the "bad guy" and without it, Dane is all good. Dane is not happy. He is convinced that Steve is already becoming possessed by the Blade himself. He may not be wrong...

I liked this issue. It goes a little deeper into why the people of New Avalon love Dane- he's the best leader they've ever had, and he isn't evil like the family that ruled before. I loved seeing how eager they were to defend him.

The beginning conversation Dane has with Sir Percy bugged me. In the past, Percy has always tried to help Dane get away from the Blade, and all of the sudden, he's encouraging him to kill? Percy has never behaved this way, which makes me think this is NOT Percy's ghost, and that this is somehow connected to the Blade becoming stronger and more controlling of its wielder. He pretty much vanished when Steve started using the Blade himself.

There's a nice back and forth between Dane and Rebecca, who really does want to help him (while also getting material for her next book, no doubt!).

I would not be surprised if in the future, these two are paired off. A "Florence Nightengale Effect" if you will. ;) Too bad the series is ending after #5. I'd love to see them rule New Avalon together. Of course, with Dane's notoriously bad luck with women, it probably would crash and burn. And we still don't know what happened between him and Faiza Hussein.

As usual, there's humor from Deadpool. I can't believe no one has ever made a Monty Python and the Holy Grail reference before now!

Poor Dane is left absolutely shattered at the end, as the Avengers leave with the Blade in Steve's hand. Rebecca stays behind to help him with the inevitable withdrawal he faces. Dane pleads with Steve one last time that only he can wield the Blade.

The original cover for #5 has him still in chains and clearly suffering. The alternate cover for #5 hints that Dane was right and Steve is now possessed by the Blade:

As for Dane's future, it's already been hinted at (by Marvel editors, as well as clues from other comics' future covers) that he will return to Earth and possibly rejoin the Avengers. Of course, there will be a lot of explaining to do about how he got back and if he's actually okay now. I hope that's true, because I hate that this series was cancelled so quickly. And I really don't want to see Dane get mothballed again.

Speaking of cancellations, it looks like Agent Carter won't get a third season. I figured that would happen, but it still sucks.
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
...thanks to Agent Carter. "You arrogant plonker." I love this show. I love the characters, the costumes, the music. This is one of the few occasions that I don't mind that the character is so different on screen than in the comics (Peggy was American in the comics and wasn't anywhere near as badass). I love Peggy and Jarvis being badass together. I wish the show was being watched by more people. I hope it gets a third season.

Good day today- excellent episode of Agent Carter, and a new issue of Black Knight coming to me late tonight. Sadly it's the second to last issue. I'm still bitter that it was cancelled so soon.
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
Black Knight is cancelled after #5. At least the story arc will be finished. I hope he pops up in an Avengers title sometime soon. It really sucks. I was enjoying the story.

It looks like Black Knight has already been cancelled by Marvel. They didn't even give it a chance. Marvel can kiss my ass.

What bugs me is that Frank Tieri isn't talking about it on his Twitter. He pushed to write this book. It had been planned by Marvel for years. What gives? If it was meant to only be a miniseries, they should have just said so.
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
Massive spoilers ahead if you're a comic reader!

Oh, boy. The shit really hit the fan in this issue. It's the Black Knight and his allies versus the Uncanny Avengers...and it looked as if Dane was going to win. But Steve Rogers made a big speech about how the Avengers will never give up until they get their man...and the allies abandoned Dane. There still seemed to be a chance for him...until Dr. Voodoo conjured up the spirits of the former Black Knights. Dane was shaken up enough for Steve to knock him out cold. The issue ends with Steve Rogers holding the Ebony Blade, and the rest of the Avengers wondering what to do with Dane.

TMI, Deadpool. TMI! (but lol at Johnny's reaction!)

There are flashbacks throughout which finally explain how Dane got to Weirdworld in the first place, and why Steve is so determined to get him. Rebecca Stevens, the Black Knight historian who first confronted Dane in Original Sins #2, approached the Uncanny Avengers with the information that Dane has been attacking villains on his own, and doing it viciously. (This also explains why she tagged along with the Uncannys to Weirdworld.) We also learn that Dane is really being controlled by the blade...Vision points out that he would never behave like this on his own. But Steve Rogers decides that Dane needs to be found and taken down. Here is the panel that broke my heart:

So much for "Once an Avenger, always an Avenger". :(

Dane stole an Avengers Quinjet and at the blade's bidding, headed for the Bermuda Triangle, and was somehow sucked into a portal to Weirdworld. This also explains how the Uncanny Avengers found a way to him.

Poor Dane is at the mercy of the blade, it seems. It's as if he's just a vessel, and the blade is the real brains.

This was a grim issue with pretty much no humor (except for Deadpool's "accident"). It was hard to see Dane Whitman, once a valued Avenger, suddenly abandoned by his new allies, and his former fellow Avengers and friends trying to take him down. It answered many questions and leaves many more. It's going to be a long wait for February and issue #4. I hope this book manages to last at least a year...sadly it's not doing well in sales. I don't believe Dane is evil- it's all the blade. Perhaps now that he's had the blade taken away, he'll have a chance to be himself again...if he survives the separation. The cover for #5 shows him in chains and displaying withdrawal symptoms.
mollybarton: (knight lights)
Just as good as part one. It explains more of what Dane did that made him run off and why the Uncanny Avengers are after him. These panels explain it all:

Oh, Dane.  I hope there's more going on than the Ebony Blade curse, and that things aren't all what they seem. I can't stand the thought of Dane being completely evil!

So the Uncanny Avengers, led by Dane's old friend, the now literally old Steve Rogers, arrive in Weirdworld and face nasty creatures that Dane throws at them. They want him to give up, but Dane warns them that a bigger battle is coming. At the end, they're all about to be attacked by weird looking astronaut monkeys! Dane's closing narration gives me hope that he's really not evil. "The Avengers can think I'm the bad guy all they want, but they're wrong. So if it takes a show of force to make them listen, then that's exactly what they'll get." I hope we get more details in #3! I can't wait for January.

We still don't know how Dane got to Weirdworld, and how the Avengers found him. The fact that the Blade has gotten stronger is touched on, and that Dane is obviously is becoming lost to it. There is still a bit of humor in the issue- such as Dane's amused disgust that Deadpool is now an Avenger! That's one thing that bugs me- Deadpool was a mercenary and a pretty vicious killer at times, and yet the Avengers seem to be fine with him. Dane kills a guy who was threatening to kill the whole team (and tried to kill Dane himself), and he's suddenly a pariah. URGH!
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
Black Knight #1 was worth the wait.

Poor Dane is stuck in Weirdworld, where "even the birds and bees want to whack you". He's taken over a small kingdom here, and has people to rule! He and his new subjects have to fight all kinds of nasty creatures and bad guys (Fire breathing rock trolls! Slimy flying lizards! Big serpent men!). Also, all kinds of crap from Earth 616 manages to land here. Dane has a room full of interesting things. And the Uncanny Avengers are after him, with the Black Knight/Ebony Blade historian from Original Sins #2 in tow. I'm starting to wonder if they're just worried about him because of her book, and Dane has gotten so paranoid and addicted to the blade that he wants to fight them. He thinks he can never go home...even if he wants to. A solid start. I think this is going to be a fun book.

King Dane. ROTFLMAO. I don't think he's too happy about his new role. And those red eyes...last time he had eyes like that, he had that forced "Gann Josin" bond with Sersi. Also, Dane is a lot rougher around the edges, and it's not just the new armor. He's really not the lovable dork from the 80s Avengers anymore. I can't wait to see where writer Frank Tieri is going with all this.

The church bazaar did very well last Saturday! We brought in over $10,000. Some photos:

The ornaments were the biggest sellers. My houses were a hit!

I planned and decorated the tree in the center. Mom bought it, not so much for the tree, but for the base. LOL!

I made about 20 dozen cookies for the  bake sale. They were gone before we closed. :)

Plans for the 2017 Bazaar are already in motion.

Once we were done with crafts for the bazaar, Mom was able to finish this quilt for me:

She'd been working on it off and on for a few years.

I'm still making putz houses. I found some great new paper and a new pattern:

This Wednesday Black Knight #1 will finally be out! The latest preview looks good. Looks like Dane has gotten into some trouble! :p

Finally, I picked up yet another new ornament- dancing baby Groot! It plays music.

Thanksgiving is still almost two weeks away, but the Christmas commercials have already invaded the television. I've already seen my favorite, the Hershey's Kisses "handbell choir", twice. Too soon, dammit!
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
I found a cute Thanksgiving sweater for a teddy bear at A.C. Moore. I was able to adjust it a bit to fit Emma Louise!

I picked up some stuff at Tuesday Morning today, and one thing I found was a wine bottle sweater. This one looks like it won't need much adjustment for the doll. Found a cute mini tea set and ornaments, too.

Comic news- the 90s variant of Black Knight #2 came out today:

Dane is with the Avengers of the 90s, including Sersi, Hercules, Crystal, and Giant-Man. The leather jackets were a thing for some reason. And Dane had ditched the Ebony Blade for a lightsaber-type thing. The 90s were a strange time for comics. The first issue of Black Knight comes out next week! Can't wait.
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
Last year, McDonald's had Happy Meals with tiny versions of American Girl Isabelle. There were four mini dolls (half the size of mini Isabelle) and a couple of paper dolls. I had to rush to ebay to look for them, and found a complete set. Yay for ebay! They were cheap, too. So my mini Isabelle will have minions. :p

Aren't they adorable?

My order contains two of the doll with the hat. So I'll have five dolls. Five identical blondes. Instead of Isabelle 1, Isabelle 2, etc., I'm going to name them after the Stepford Cuckoos from the X-Men (the cloned "daughters" of Emma Frost): Celeste, Esme, Irma/Mindee, Phoebe, and Sophie. :p Yeah, I know Esme and Sophie are dead in the comics. I just think it's funny to have five identical blonde dolls. What else could a comic book fan name them?

Too bad they didn't do this for Grace. She could use some helpers in her bakery!

Finally!

The unlettered preview of Black Knight #1 is up.

Weirdworld is the place where "lost things go". I guess Dane is pretty lost. :p Lots of interesting things in Dane's room here!
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
The first issue is still three weeks away, and yet there is a hint of what's to come. The January issue cover and description is out:

BLACK KNIGHT #3
FRANK TIERI (W) • LUCA PIZZARI & KEV WALKER (A)
Cover by JULIAN TOTINO TEDESCO
Variant cover by TIM BRADSTREET
• This is it – the moment you’ve been waiting for! The Black Knight vs. the Avengers!
• Will Dane and his forces vanquish his old team mates?
• Or will this mark the end of Dane’s adventures in Weirdworld?

Wow, looks like Dane is turning into a bad guy. Do not want. Hopefully, things aren’t what they seem to be. Is it November yet? I can't wait to see what is going to happen. Dane vs. the Uncanny Avengers. Yikes. They include old Steve Rogers and Quicksilver, the only ones on the team who have worked with him.

mollybarton: (sick black knight)
The Action Figure Variant for Black Knight #1. This needs to be made into a real figure!

One more month before #1 is released. I can't wait!

Still sick, but at least I'm not dead. :p I have no voice, though. Choir tonight is going to be fun- NOT. I may have to house sit for Katie again so she and Paul can go to Homecoming at their college. I'll be better by then. So Giada won't be bored like last time...I slept most of the time I was there.
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
The hip-hop cover variant for Black Knight #1. It's based on Food and Liquor by Lupe Fiasco.

I want to see the action figure variant! There should be an unlettered preview soon, too.

Sick as a dog. Yuck. Still managed to do the shopping today. I bought Mom's birthday presents and some new nail polish for myself. And Jo Ann Fabric has a ton of Christmas craft stuff out, so I picked up some bottle brush trees. I have so many ornaments to make before Christmas!
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
Two covers for the second issue of Black Knight.

Dane looks dangerous! And pissed off.

I'm home from D.C.- spent a whole week there with Mom and Aunt Pauletta. My feet hurt and I'm exhausted! Many photos to post, it's going to take more than one entry to do it all!
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
A variant cover for Black Knight #1 was released today:

All-New, All-Different Dane Whitman! November can't come soon enough. There will also be an "action figure" variant. I'm seeing a lot of interest about this comic on comic book forums. I really hope the book is good!

I'm working on "putz" houses. My first attempt:

I made an itty bitty house to put into a globe pendant.

I'm going to re-do this one.

I did this one tonight:

I think I'm getting the hang of it! They're fun to do.
mollybarton: (sick black knight)
The last little bit for Grace's bakery- a tea cart.

I added a curtain, too. It's pretty much finished, except for a door. I glued the treats to the furniture, and all the furniture to the floor, except for the chairs and tea cart.

I found a good place to display the new Doctor Who toys- on top of the bakery box!

FInally saw Ant-Man yesterday. I loved it! It was a fun movie, with plenty of action and good effects. Paul Rudd made a good Scott Lang/Ant-Man. Michael Douglas was Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man. Great bits with Anthony Mackie as Falcon, too! Also, I wasn't expecting to see Peggy Carter at the beginning (a Pym flashback to 1989). It's sad that Janet Van Dyne, the orginal Wasp, is seemingly "lost forever" in the microverse (that's how she "died" at the end of Secret Invasion- she got better!), though there's a hint she might somehow come back. That would be awkward for her daughter, Hope (Evangeline Lilly)! The clip at the end of the credits are a hint to what will happen in Captain America: Civil War. There are also hints of other superheroes coming up, such as Spider-man. Warning- this is NOT a movie for bug-a-phobes!

Just like the Avengers, Ant-Man seems to be a mix of Marvel comic book universes, alternate timelines, Ultimates, etc. In the comics, Hope Van Dyne is from an alternate universe, and as Red Wasp, she's not exactly one of the good guys! Also disappointed that Scott's daughter, Cassie, is so little in the movie. No chance of her becoming Ant-Girl/Stature, and likely no chance for Young Avengers, either.

One of the best cameos was from Garrett Morris of Saturday Night Live. Back in the 70s, he played Ant-Man in a skit! And the best scene from the trailer (IMHO), the Ant-Man/Yellowjacket fight on Cassie's Thomas the Tank Engine play set, is even better on the big screen.
